Wander the cobblestone streets and discover our favorite places to shop, eat and play while inhaling the essence of magical realism that laces the air.

Morning: No trip to the Caribbean is complete without a full day en la playa. Travel by speed boat to the remote beaches of Islas de Rosario for our absolute favorite spot to experience the best shorelines around. Picture this: perfect, sandy beaches, calm, blue waters, a few hammocks scattered across the shoreline and a full day ahead of you to relax. Enjoy this little slice of paradise until the late afternoon while dining on a traditional Colombian lunch on the sand that includes some local Costeño (coastal) favorites.

Evening: Indulge in the Caribbean flavors of the Colombian coast at a restaurant of your choosing from our highly curated list of recommended eateries. (PRO TIP: We’d definitely recommend seeking out these bites while you’re there!)

Morning: Get an early start (trust us, it’s worth it) and head out to el campo (rural areas) just outside of Cartagena to soak in a local mud volcano that provides a micro-economy to this rural area. Our years of experience has taught us that getting there early is worth the early wake up call—we’ll be there before the other tourists to ensure the best experience. You’ll emerge from the volcano covered head to toe in mud, wash it all off in a nearby lagoon. This quirky experience is one you’ll never forget.

Afternoon: Eat as the locals do during a guided, street-food experience that will have you tasting the varied flavors of Colombian mecatos (snacks). Bring your comfy shoes, stretchiest pants and your appetite!

Evening: Dine at a restaurant of your choosing from our highly curated list of eclectic, authentic, and ornate recommended eateries while further exploring this colorful and charming city. This just may be the perfect night for sipping Aguilas (local beer) and people watching in one of Cartagena’s sprawling plazas. Late nights and meaningful conversation encouraged!

Morning: Shake what your momma gave ya as you learn the Colombian dance style of champeta from the best of the best. Native to the Cartagena area, this style of dance has taken the country by storm and will have you working up a sweat.

Use our highly curated Cartagena Travel Guide which includes a list of places to shop, drink and gaze upon some of the best views of the city. (PRO TIP: We recommend all of these for the best experience!) Spend your time sipping coffee in lush gardens or do some serious shopping in the city of “Caribbean glamour.”

Evening: Enjoy your final night in Cartagena at a restaurant of your choosing. Raise your glasses to the city which has certainly stolen your heart by this point as you plan your next trip back. The trip is filled with experiences that allow you to be immersed in the varied cultures of Colombia. This traveler is open minded, inherently curious, and enjoys indulging in the moment. This trip is for the traveler who finds joy in stepping outside of their comfort zone, loves trying new things, and is excited to explore a culture completely different from their own. While El Camino Travel provides a high level of customer service, our traveler is someone who is easy-going and amenable to change in the diverse and unpredictable landscape of travel in Latin America.

Our adventurous style of group travel is not for everyone. Please read carefully through the itinerary and the above description to ensure that you are booking a trip that fits your comfort level.

Accommodations will be customized according to the travelers preference. The pricing starting at $2,500 per person includes accommodation for a three star classic hotel that has been vetted by our team. We have additional accommodation suggestions for those that want to be upgraded to four star or who may be traveling in a group and would rather rent a private house for an additional price. Whatever our recommendation may be according to your preference, we promise we chose these locations because we love them with all our heart and soul and because they pass the El Camino standard of customer service with flying colors.

We seek more boutique and unique accommodations with plenty of charm and character, ones that provide a worthwhile experience. Most importantly, these places stay true to our ethos of local immersion. Please do not expect our recommendations to be hotels like Hilton, Marriott, or other large corporate and standard hotels.
