Is it safe to travel to Egypt?

In light of the developments between Israel and Gaza, we understand that there might be concerns about travel to Egypt and how El Camino is monitoring the situation. Our first and sincerest hope is that, with concerted international efforts, the situation will de-escalate, bringing stability to the region.

For our travelers and those considering our Egypt trips, we want you to know that we are continuing to run our Egypt trips as scheduled with little to no significant itinerary adjustments.

How is El Camino Monitoring the Evolving Situation?

Since the start of the regional turmoil, our leadership team has remained in constant contact with our risk management advisor, local partners in Egypt, regional Embassies and State Departments, and a network of other travel companies operating in the Middle East. As we interact with these sources and evaluate our itineraries, El Camino has remained transparent with our travelers through virtual “town hall” style events bringing travelers and our local hosts together for open discussion. We take an approach of “informing and not convincing” our travelers on our trips and why we openly share what we know.

As of now, El Camino hasn't made any changes to our itineraries since there’s been no increased threat to the specific locations we visit. We remain diligent in our focused attention to the evolving situation, and if something changes, we’ll respond appropriately. Traveler safety is a top priority at El Camino - now and always - and we promise to remain transparent and honest. At present and for perspective, the unrest in Gaza is over 450 miles (750 kms) from Cairo.

Our Approach to Safety

Whether tracking the situation in Gaza or anywhere else in the world, El Camino takes a strategic approach to monitoring traveler safety. In addition to engaging with the resources mentioned above, we have three core guidelines that guide us towards adjusting, canceling, or postponing a trip.

  1. If the U.S. State Department warning changed to a Level 4, “Do Not Travel” status to the region or a specific area within the scheduled itinerary

  2. If our local partners on the ground communicate any changes locally that would be concerning to locals or visitors.

  3. Violence or unrest enters proximity to the destinations visited on the El Camino trip that felt unsafe or could create an unsafe situation for travelers.

We take our responsibility of supporting traveler safety very seriously. When changes are needed, we implement them. When traveler questions arise, we respond with honesty and integrity knowing that every traveler’s needs are unique.

Postponement and Cancellations

We understand that plans may change, especially considering recent events. If travelers decide to cancel their trip due to safety concerns, our standard cancellation policy will apply as listed in our Booking Terms and Conditions. If El Camino is forced to postpone or reschedule a specific departure date, all traveler funds will be transferred to the adjusted departure date or another date in the future.

If travelers who’ve canceled their trip need a verification letter to support an insurance claim, particularly for Cancel for Any Reason coverage, we can provide a cancellation confirmation letter.

In the event situations change and El Camino is forced to cancel any of our departures, we’ll reach out to discuss available options promptly and update the information on this page.

Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions.
