Malak Y.’s Field Notes from Antigua & Barbuda
Field Notes are firsthand travel recommendations for and/or by our ECT community, where we share the lowdown on destinations across the globe from travelers and locals alike. This week, travel advisor, Malak Yacout, shares her highlights from Antigua and Barbuda.
Before embarking on my Antigua and Barbuda trip with my family, I naturally turned to my go-to community, El Camino, for recommendations on what to do, where to eat, and when to visit. To my surprise, this time, I didn’t find much. Fresh from my recent week-long adventure, I felt compelled to contribute my insights to this destination. Antigua and Barbuda is one of the Caribbean countries that offer an interesting citizenship-by-investment model.
Stay
Barrymore Beach Apartments - With 365 beaches to choose from, deciding where to stay can be overwhelming. My family and I opted for Barrymore Beach, boasting chalets just steps from the water, offering short-term and extended rentals. I wouldn’t hesitate to make the same choice again, as its central location made it very convenient to move around. While not a private beach, its tranquility, with only around 20 lounge chairs, distinguishes it as one of the island's most peaceful spots.
Eat
Casa Roots - We probably ate there five times. An easy laid-back eatery by the beach where a French chef accidentally, by cooking, crossed the line into magic. We pretty much tried everything on the menu—it was that good. And the staff? Total gems. Their menu changes all the time, so you know you're getting the freshest bites, no matter when you stop by.
Bay House - Don’t skip breakfast at Bay House. Their view alone is worth waking up early for.
